May 17, 2014
Once again the Youth Theatre of Northern Baltimore County comes to the aid of those in need. This year for Christmas we adopted two head start classrooms in Inner City Baltimore providing them with over $1100.00 of classroom supplies along with one Christmas gift for each child. Each gift contained a child’s bible, 2 age appropriate books, a stuffed animal, toothbrush, toothpaste, coloring book, crayons, stickers, dominoes and a gift certificate to McDonald’s for a free happy meal.
Head Start is a comprehensive pre-school education program designed to prepare low-income, children for academic success, and promote age-appropriate social skills. The program works in partnership with parents, extended family, and members of the community to offer developmentally appropriate education, health, case management and family support services to children and their families.
The Head Start program serves over 800 three and four-year-old children and their families at seven sites in Baltimore City. Head Start provides a structured program that includes daily academic instruction by certified early childhood educators using a curriculum approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. Each family is provided with case management and other services that support a healthy and stable family unit. Health screenings, nutrition services, and disability support services are also offered, and breakfast and lunch are provided daily.
